Baird Media Announces an Exciting Competition Open to Members of the South African Podcasters Guild (SAPG).

Competition: Win Your Spot in the Podmaster Masterclass!

Baird Media, in collaboration with the South African Podcasters Guild, is offering an incredible opportunity for podcasters to win a place in the Podmaster Masterclass 2025. This program is designed to help podcasters refine their skills, grow their audience, and build sustainable success.

If you’re a podcaster who is passionate about improving your craft but hasn’t yet reached the level of award-winning recognition, this competition is for you. We’re looking for podcasters who have potential but need guidance and support to take their shows to the next level.

What’s Included in the Prize?

  • Full participation in the Podmaster Masterclass, which includes:
    • Two full days of in-person training on 1–2 March 2025 at Protea Ranch, Centurion.
    • All online sessions before and after the in-person masterclass.
    • Comprehensive learning materials.
  • Total Value: R16,950.

Note: Accommodation and travel are not included and are the responsibility of the winner. Tea, coffee, and lunch will be provided at the in-person part of the Masterclass.

 

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the competition, entrants must:

  1. Be a member of the South African Podcasters Guild.
  2. Have an active podcast with at least 10 published episodes.
  3. Be available to attend the in-person masterclass on 1–2 March 2025 and all related online sessions.
  4. Commit to:
    • Writing a testimonial about their experience after completing the masterclass.
    • Featuring a Podmaster Masterclass and SAPG ad in one of their upcoming podcast episodes.
    • Important: Podcasts that have recently won awards (e.g., the South African Podcast Awards) are not eligible, as this opportunity is aimed at podcasters who need to improve their craft.

 

How to Enter

Submit the following in your competition proposal:

  1. Motivation Letter (300–500 words):
    • Why do you want to attend the Podmaster Masterclass?
    • How will it help you improve your podcast?
    • What are your podcast goals for the next 6–12 months?
  2. Podcast Overview:
    • Title, description, and link to your podcast.
    • Current stats (e.g., episode count, average listenership, social media following).
    • Audience engagement examples (e.g., reviews, listener feedback, social media interactions).
  3. Self-Assessment (Aligned with Judging Criteria):
    • Podcast Quality: A short description of your podcast’s strengths and areas for improvement in terms of production, consistency, and creativity.
    • Engagement: Examples of how your audience interacts with your podcast and areas where you’d like to see growth.
    • Vision: A clear outline of where you see your podcast going, and how the masterclass can help you achieve your goals.
    • Impact: Describe your podcast’s contribution to its niche or the broader podcasting community.
  4. 60-Second Audio/Video Clip:
    • Introduce yourself and your podcast.
    • Share why you’re passionate about podcasting and why this masterclass would be valuable to you.

Judging Criteria

The judging panel will evaluate proposals based on:

  1. Podcast Quality (30%)
    • Clarity and production quality.
    • Consistency in publishing episodes.
    • Creativity in content and delivery.
  2. Engagement (20%)
    • Evidence of listener engagement (e.g., reviews, feedback, social media presence).
    • Efforts to connect with the target audience.
  3. Vision and Motivation (30%)
    • Clarity and passion in outlining podcast goals.
    • A compelling case for how the masterclass will support growth.
  4. Potential Impact (20%)
    • The potential for the podcast to grow and contribute positively to its niche or the broader podcasting community.

 

Competition Timeline

  • Launch Date: 13 January 2025
  • Submission Deadline: 31 January 2025
  • Winners Announced: 21 February 2025.

 

Podmaster Masterclass Program Structure

 

Session 1: Online Introduction

Date: Thursday 27 February 2025 2025
Time: 14h00 – 16h30 (Online)

Objective:
Kick off the Podmaster Masterclass by introducing participants, outlining the structure of the program, and identifying key areas for individual podcast growth.

Content:

  • Welcome and Introductions – Meet your fellow podcasters and coaches.
  • Masterclass Overview – A breakdown of the in-person sessions and what to expect.
  • Podcast Presentations – Participants introduce their podcasts (content, audience, goals).
  • Identifying Key Focus Areas – Discuss growth priorities (audience engagement, monetization, technical skills).

Homework:

  • Submit your top 3 podcast goals and areas where you need feedback ahead of the in-person sessions.

 

Session 2: In-Person Masterclass

Dates: Saturday, 8 March – Sunday, 9 March 2025
Location: Protea Ranch, Centurion, Pretoria
Times: 09h00 – 17h00 (both days)

Day 1: Saturday (09h00 – 17h00)

Objective:
Refine podcast content and audience engagement strategies while improving technical production and branding.

Morning Session – Content Strategy & Storytelling
09h00 – 12h30

  • Interactive Content Deep Dive – Examine how your podcast’s format serves your audience.
  • Storytelling for Podcasts – Practical techniques on scripting, structuring episodes, and enhancing engagement.
  • Podcast Positioning – How to sharpen your niche and stand out in a competitive space.
  • Peer Review – Share episodes for constructive feedback on content flow and structure.

Outcome:

  • Clear steps to improve podcast content, engage listeners, and refine your storytelling approach.

Lunch Break (12h30 – 13h30)

Afternoon Session – Technical Mastery & Production
13h30 – 17h00

  • Audio Production Masterclass – Tips on microphone techniques, editing workflows, and professional sound design.
  • Interactive Production Workshop – Work hands-on to troubleshoot audio issues and enhance sound quality.
  • Branding & Identity – Crafting a consistent and memorable podcast identity (visuals, titles, tone).
  • Collaborative Branding Exercise – Group work on refining logos, descriptions, and podcast aesthetics.

Outcome:

  • An actionable plan to improve podcast audio, branding, and overall production quality.

Day 2: Sunday (09h00 – 17h00)

Objective:
Develop monetization strategies and create a clear roadmap for long-term podcast growth and sustainability.

Morning Session – Monetization Strategies

  • Exploring Revenue Models – Dive into sponsorships, listener support, memberships, and merchandising.
  • Podcast Monetization Case Studies – Learn from successful examples of podcasters generating revenue.
  • Building Your Monetization Plan – Create a tailored approach that aligns with your audience and content.

Outcome:

  • A detailed monetization strategy ready to implement for your podcast.

Lunch Break (12h30 – 13h30)

Afternoon Session – Podcast Roadmap & Goal Setting
13h30 – 17h00

  • Crafting a 6-Month Growth Plan – Develop a roadmap for podcast expansion, focusing on content, audience growth, and monetization.
  • Peer Review and Feedback – Share roadmaps for collaborative feedback and refinement.
  • Final Planning and Next Steps – Consolidate learnings and establish goals for the next 6 months.

Outcome:

  • Leave with a comprehensive growth plan and actionable steps to sustain podcast growth and profitability.

 

Individual Coaching Sessions (Online)

Dates: March – April 2025
Objective:
Provide personalized, one-on-one feedback and coaching to refine podcast growth strategies.

Structure:

  • Each participant will receive three 60-minute coaching sessions over two months.
  • Sessions will focus on:
    • Progress Reviews – Evaluate the implementation of growth plans.
    • Challenge Troubleshooting – Address specific issues related to content, production, or audience engagement.
    • Refining Strategy – Receive expert feedback to adjust and enhance podcasting approaches.

Outcome:

  • Targeted feedback and continuous improvement to ensure participants stay on track with their podcast goals.

Booking Sessions: 

  • Winners will be provided with a booking link for online sessions. It is advisable to book sessions well in advance, as time slots will fill up fast.

 

Session 3: Closing Group Session (Online)

Date: Thursday, 1 May 2025
Time: 14h00 – 16h30 (Online)

Objective:
Reflect on progress, share experiences, and outline plans for future podcast growth.

Content:

  • Recap and Celebration – Reflect on individual progress and achievements.
  • Group Discussion – Key takeaways and lessons from the masterclass.
  • Final Peer Feedback – Share ongoing plans and receive input from peers and coaches.
  • Next Steps – Outline future collaboration opportunities and personal growth strategies.

Outcome:

  • A sense of accomplishment and direction for long-term podcast growth, backed by a supportive peer network.

Podmaster Masterclass Competition Rules

The following rules govern the Podmaster Masterclass competition hosted by Baird Media in collaboration with the South African Podcasters Guild. By entering this competition, participants agree to these terms and conditions.

1. Eligibility

1.1. The competition is open to members of the South African Podcasters Guild only.

1.2. Entrants must have an active podcast with at least 5 published episodes.

1.3. Podcasts that have won recent awards (e.g., the South African Podcast Awards) are not eligible.

1.4. Entrants must be available to:

  • Attend the in-person masterclass on 1–2 March 2025 at Protea Ranch, Centurion, Pretoria.
  • Participate in all online sessions..

1.5. Entrants must commit to:

  • Writing a testimonial about their experience after completing the masterclass.
  • Featuring a Podmaster Masterclass ad in one of their upcoming podcast episodes.

2. Submission Requirements

2.1. Entrants must submit a complete proposal by the deadline, which includes:

  • Motivation Letter (300–500 words):
    • Why they want to attend the Podmaster Masterclass.
    • How the masterclass will help improve their podcast.
    • Their podcast goals for the next 6–12 months.
  • Podcast Overview:
    • Podcast title, description, and link.
    • Current stats (e.g., episode count, average listenership, social media following).
    • Examples of audience engagement (e.g., listener feedback, reviews, social media activity).
  • Self-Assessment aligned with the judging criteria:
    • Podcast Quality: Areas of strength and improvement.
    • Engagement: Current efforts to connect with listeners and desired growth.
    • Vision: Clear podcasting goals and alignment with the masterclass.
    • Impact: Potential contribution to the podcasting community.
  • 60-second audio or video clip:
    • Introduce themselves and their podcast.
    • Share their podcasting journey and why they want to attend the masterclass.

3. Judging Criteria

3.1. Proposals will be evaluated by a panel of judges based on:

  • Podcast Quality (30%): Production value, consistency, and creativity.
  • Engagement (20%): Listener interaction, social media activity, and reviews.
  • Vision and Motivation (30%): Clarity of goals and alignment with the masterclass.
  • Potential Impact (20%): Contribution to the podcasting community and growth potential.

4. Competition Timeline

4.1. The competition opens on 13 January 2025 and closes on 31 January 2025.
4.2. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
4.3. Winners will be notified by email and announced publicly on 21 February 2025.

5. Prize

5.1. Winners will receive a spot in the Podmaster Masterclass, valued at R16,950, including:

  • Participation in the two-day in-person masterclass (8-9 March 2025).
  • Access to all online sessions before and after the retreat.
  • All learning materials.

5.2. The prize does not include:

  • Travel to and from Protea Ranch, 354Jr, Vlakplaats, Centurion 0157; or.
  • Accommodation during the in-person sessions at Protea Ranch.

6. Responsibilities of Winners

6.1. Winners must:

  • Attend the entire in-person masterclass and all online sessions.
  • Feature a 30-second ad for the Podmaster Masterclass in at least one podcast episode.
  • Feature a 30-second ad for Baird Media and the SAPG in at least one podcast episode.
  • Write a detailed testimonial about their experience for Baird Media marketing.
  • Share their masterclass journey on social media, tagging Baird Media and SAPG.

7. General Terms

7.1. Decisions made by the judging panel are final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding results.
7.2. Submissions must be the original work of the entrant, and any false or misleading information will result in disqualification.
7.3. Winners who are unable to attend any of the online or in-person sessions for any reason will forfeit their prize.
7.4. By entering the competition, entrants consent to their names, podcast details, and testimonials being used for promotional purposes by Baird Media and SAPG.
7.5. Baird Media reserves the right to modify or cancel the competition if unforeseen circumstances arise.

9. Additional Terms and Conditions

9.1 Prize Limitations:

  • The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or any other form of compensation.
  • The prize is strictly for participation in the Podmaster Masterclass and does not cover additional expenses such as travel, accommodation, or other incidental costs.

9.2 Substitution of Prize:

  • In the event of unforeseen circumstances, Baird Media reserves the right to offer an alternative prize of equal or greater value at its discretion.

9.3 No Refunds or Replacements:

  • If the winner is unable to attend any part of the masterclass (in-person or online), no alternative prize, cash compensation, or refunds will be provided.

9.4 Eligibility Verification:

  • Winners must provide proof of eligibility (e.g., podcast link, membership in the South African Podcasters Guild) upon request.
  • Failure to meet eligibility criteria will result in disqualification and forfeiture of the prize.

9.5 Submission Ownership:

  • All submitted materials (e.g., motivation letters, video/audio clips) remain the property of the entrant but may be used by Baird Media for promotional purposes with proper attribution.

9.6 Disqualification:

  • Entrants who fail to meet submission requirements, provide false information, or breach any competition rules may be disqualified.
  • Any form of misconduct, inappropriate behavior, or failure to adhere to the masterclass’s code of conduct will result in removal from the program without recourse.

9.7 Right to Withdraw:

  • Baird Media reserves the right to withdraw or modify the competition, prize, or rules at any time without prior notice if circumstances beyond its control necessitate such action.

9.8 Liability:

  • Baird Media is not responsible for any technical issues, lost submissions, or delays in receiving entries.
  • Baird Media will not be held liable for any costs incurred by the winners, such as travel expenses, accommodation, or other personal expenses related to attending the masterclass.

9.9 Acceptance of Rules:

  • By entering the competition, entrants confirm that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by all the competition rules and terms.

9.10 Force Majeure:

  • In the event of cancellation or postponement due to circumstances beyond the control of Baird Media (e.g., natural disasters, pandemics), no refunds or alternative prizes will be offered, but efforts will be made to reschedule the masterclass.
